Adel EL ZAÏM
Adel El Zaïm is Vice-President for Research, Creation, Partnership, and Internationalisation at the University of Québec at Outaouais, Canada (WWW.UQO.CA). He oversees the university research strategy and big initiatives as well as the partnership and internationalization engagements in Canada and with international institutions. UQO is member of the network of Université du Québec. It is located in Gatineau, Saint-Jérôme and Ripon (Québec, Canada).
His main interests cover the Internationalization of higher education strategic issues, national and institutional internationalization strategy development and implementation, evaluation of internationalization, and the contribution of the Internationalization to the different dimensions of HE.
Dr. El Zaïm has worked for several Research and Higher Education Institutions and organizations like most recently the University of Ottawa where he served a three-year mandate as Associate Vice-President International and Chief International officer and the University of British Columbia (UBC) where he occupied the position of Executive Director for International. He also was Director-General, Internationalization, at Université de Sherbrooke, in Quebec, Canada, and Senior Program Specialist, Information and Communication Technologies for Development, with Canada’s International Development Research Centre, Middle East, and North Africa Regional office based in Cairo, Egypt.
Dr. El Zaïm is immediate past president of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), based in the USA. He chairs the 2022 AIEA annual international conference, Louisiana. He assumed also the chairmanship of the AIEA Awards Committee and was a member of the AIEA Strategic Planning Task Force. He is currently a member of the board of the Committee in Canada of the Maison des étudiants Canadiens à Paris (House of Canadian Students). Adel was founding member, vice-president, and president of the Internet Society in Québec (ISOC-Québec) and he was a member of the Civil Society Bureau for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS-UN) from 2003 to 2005. He served as a member of the board of several organizations including the Association ISOC Quebec, Collège de Maisonneuve (Montréal), Association of Arab translators (Beirut) and the Economic Local Development Centre Sherbrooke Innopole (Sherbrooke, Quebec).
Dr. El Zaïm was born in Tripoli, Lebanon. After graduating from the Lebanese University in French Language and Literature, he prepared a Master in Didactics at the University of Paris III, Sorbonne-Nouvelle, and received a PhD in Linguistics (Semantics, 1994) from the University of Paris IV, Sorbonne. Adel El Zaim undertook his post-doctorate research at the University of Québec at Montréal in Semiotics and Human Language Technologies.
